CIA torture ????

Before the terrorism  report the public had no idea what the members of the CIA were doing to the prisoners of the Salt Pit. We the American public now know what took place in that horrible place. I do not agree with a lot of the torture that has taken place after the 9-11 attacks.

                I do not believe that what the CIA has been doing is right and fair to their detainees. I can agree with interrogations but not torture. We as the United States are in the United Nations Convention against torture along with most of the world. We as a country cannot torture since we are bound by the UNC. I believe that all but one of the tortures are bad. The one that I is ok in my book is just what we do to any person who has broken the law, we interrogate them to try to find out information. All of the other torture is too extreme. We as America have no right to torture anyone that is not our way of doing things.

                The biggest thing that gets me mad about this is that two people got over 80 million taxpayer dollars for something that they are hardly capable of doing. Another thing that makes me mad is that the CIA couldn't come out and tell the people in high places about it or even the president for that matter.  One final thing that makes me mad is that the CIA knew that what they were doing was wrong. They then go and tell everyone that it was giving them a lot of useful information, which it really wasn't otherwise the investigators would have found it by now.

                I do not agree with what the CIA has done, from the torturing itself to trying to cover the horrible things that they had done. The CIA is a big operation and with a big operation comes some problems I think that this was one of their problems. The websites you read are just giving the information that the people needed to know.

28th Amendment

We have been studying the 27 amendments in government. We are asked to make our own amendment for the constitution. My amendment would be the 28 amendment. The 28 amendment would repeal the 27 amendment.

                I feel as though the 27 amendment isn't fair to the American public and lower class Americans who have to work every day just to barley survive to provide for themselves. My amendment would repeal the 27^th amendment so that the congressman cannot adjust their own pay. I feel that the pay of the congressman should be voted on the American public, based on how well the congressmen have done for the people. I feel as though the congressmen should start out at minimum pay and be forced to ask the American public for the raises in their salary. By limiting their pay to minimum wage I feel as though the congressman will be more willing to pass more efficient laws on the subject of better and cheaper education because they now are in the same boat as the rest of middle class Americans.

                Government isn't fair to the hard working middle class Americans. By creating a amendment that gave the people the power over some of the government. By creating the 28^th amendment it will help congressmen better understand how hard it is to work for something. 

Gun control (Bowling for Columbine)

In government class, we watched a documentary called Bowling for Columbine, which was directed by Michael Moore. The movie is about the Columbine massacre and how guns, gun laws, and the media play into the scenario.  The movie also shows the different views that people have on gun control and guns in general.

A question comes to my mind when I first watched this movie: how does the 2^nd amendment play into our society today? The 2^nd amendment states that all people have the right to bear arms. So what does that mean? In my mind, it means that all people should be able to own guns. Now, I also think that the government should have a bit of control over the people who can buy guns and how many they can buy. In our society today, I think that people want to own guns, but they don’t want to have the government placing any restrictions on guns.

I believe that the government should have some pull when it comes to gun control, but I think that there is also a boundary that the government shouldn't be able to cross. That boundary is punishing the innocent gun owners for the wrong doings of the guilty. The president passed 23 executive orders and in these orders the president wants to ban assault rifles. Also, he wants to place a ban on high capacity magazines. Most people don’t know that during Clinton's term there was a ban on high capacity magazines, and it seemed to help. I am totally fine with that. The reason why I am okay with that is because you don’t need an assault rifle or a fifty round drum to kill a deer. The people running assault rifles kill humans. Guns don’t kill people; people kill people.

The media is also a huge contributing factor to our society. If you watch the news nowadays, you will agree that the news shows a lot of violent scenarios dealing with guns. The news is trying to get the American people scared into thinking that something bad is going to happen if they don’t have a gun to protect themselves. The media is also trying to promote the gun ownership by showing broadcasts that are very gun enthusiastic. If they promote guns in time, they hope that it will come back into something else that they can scare the public with.

We as a society can do things to help stop things like Columbine. We as citizens can help the government by identifying people that probably shouldn't be having guns. Teachers in our schools could be putting their classes into a lock down position (doors and windows locked). Parents can be teaching their children about the dangers of guns to themselves and to other people. There are ways to help stop this from happing again; we just have to find it.

Columbine was a horrible tragedy; it happened because of the society that we live in today, the lack of gun control, and the media. People should have the right to own guns. Gun control just needs a little bit more work.

NFL domestic violence responce

Domestic violence has been a huge topic in the NFL today. Many players are being tried for domestic violence and also for child abuse. There are players turning themselves in left and right. The media is also digging up evidence for more of the players to be put into the same spot that so many other players are in. 

The media has been booming with the topic of domestic violence in the NFL. Making money is basically the main reason why the media cares so much about this topic. One of the biggest things that bothers me is that the media is digging into the player’s pasts and trying to reveal more players when it is not their business to be even looking. It is not fair to the players when the media checks back into their pasts. Maybe the problem was resolved, and the player and the “abused” were okay after it. There is no reason to bring things up from the past that can hurt people.

Child abuse is a hard topic to identify and process fairly. It is hard to decipher where the line should be placed to make it child abuse or a domestic violence charge. I believe when disciplining a child, nothing should be used other than the discipliner’s hand. Also if the discipliner leaves a significant amount of “marks” on the child, a doctor should be the only one able to turn in the discipliner.      

Punishing the convicted players is another hard task. The NFL and law enforcement have to work hand in hand to give the accused a just punishment. I believe that the players are getting off better with the NFL punishments, like being suspended with pay until the court date, just because they are “better than regular people.” I believe that the NFL should have nothing to do with the punishments of the players. It should be up to the judge for jail and fees and also whether or not that player should be suspended from the NFL. Just because the players are playing national football they should have no better punishment for what they have done wrong than a regular person right off the street.

The NFL has to do something different from what they are already doing. Let the law take over and let the bad players go. The law is the law, and just because you are higher up in the world doesn’t mean you should get an easier sentence. Domestic violence is a big thing, and the NFL will have to deal with it better in the future.

Presidential powers abused or not???

In Government we watched the movie Lincoln this movie showed the struggles that President Lincoln had while the North and the South were fighting the Civil War. He also was leading the push to pass the thirteenth amendment before the war was over. Some people thought that at that time President Lincoln was abusing his powers because he wanted to abolish slavery and also passing the emancipation proclamation. People at the time thought that the states should be the one deciding whether or not slavery should be acceptable. People today think the same way about president Obama and question if he abusing his powers. President Obama has made many executive orders while he has been in office over things like gun control and how he should be the one to regulate them. I believe that things,”executive orders like that should be up to the state and not the president to decide. 

Lincoln had a lot on his plate towards the end of the war. The movie that we watched showed that President Lincoln was in a race to pass the thirteenth amendment to end the civil war and bring the south back into the union. It was not a race to pass it like the movie states.  It took three months after the passing of the thirteenth amendment until the war was over. It also took another seven months for the states to ratify it. I believe that the thirteenth amendment was a part of war tactics but it wasn't successful   in stopping the war. Sherman’s march to the sea was a better war tactic than passing the thirteenth amendment.

The movie represented a lot of what happened, I just don’t think it was necessarily accurate from the time frame to some of the people and how they viewed President Lincoln. The president has a very stressful job worrying about the country and the president has to do things he not entirely proud to do. I believe that all presidents have abused their powers but for the good of the country.
